One of my first lead stories for 'The Oracle,' SUNY New Paltz-student run newspaper back in The Before Time, was about pot smoking on campus. It was accompanied by a huge photo of a dude hitting a large bong in a dorm that the editors easily managed to obtain. I remember that the jump was terribly mangled in the editing process.

Here's a sneak peek at SUNY New Paltz appearing in 'Girls'

The thirsty peeps at SUNY New Paltz will like you to know that the campus appears for, like, two seconds in the ad for the upcoming season of HBO's 'Girls,' starring Lena Dunham, which debuts on Sunday at 9 p.m. so set your DVR because Downton Abbey.

As you might remember, the cast came to campus in July and shot some scenes and made Dunham pose awkwardly with the campus t-shirt. Good jorb!

New Paltz has a lot of photos from that event. It counts as many as 40 students, faculty and staff as extras so that'll be fun to watch.

Watch the New Paltz commencement from the sky

More than 1,200 undergraduates took part in Sunday’s SUNY New Paltz commencement ceremony, and the college took its drone to the skies to showcase the magnitude of the event.

Oh, by the way, SUNY New Paltz has a drone.

Through a short drone-shot video on Sunday, the SUNY New Paltz Instagram post asked, “Which blue dot are you?” (We’ll forgive the college for the “Pomp and Circumstance” soundtrack, since this was a graduation and also for basically implying that the graduating students are Smurfs).
The Freeman covered the event and took many, many photos, from the ground, because we’re apparently not allowed to shoot drone videos, even though it’s a First Amendment right and all that.
But we digress!

At the Freeman’s (trolling) request by an unnamed Life Editor, a school spokesperson said the college will post some more drone videos, so stay tuned. Or go back to work, you lazy, lazy person.

SUNY New Paltz cheap, expensive magazine says

The State University of New York at New Paltz ranked 36th in Kiplinger's Best Values in Public Colleges 2010.

New Paltz climbed from 78th on the top 100 list two years ago and 53rd on last year’s list by Kiplinger, which is $5.95 an issue (or free online!).

“Our climb in the Kiplinger’s ranking parallels the continuing increases in our graduation and retention rates, reported in other recent news,” said Donald Christian, Interim President at New Paltz. “We are honored by the rankings and recognition. But we are most proud of the underlying student success, which is at the core of the mission and purpose of the College.”

The report, "comes on the heels of this summer’s rankings in the 2011 edition of 'America’s Best Colleges' by U.S. News & World Report where New Paltz is 7th among the best public universities and 33rd among both public and private universities in the North," according to the college.

SUNY New Paltz Atrium opens Monday without Justin Bieber

A grand opening for the new addition to the Student Union Building at the State University of New York at New Paltz will take place at 3 p.m. on Monday.

The new $13.4 million, 15,000-square-foot addition, known as the Atrium, is the first expansion to the Student Union since it was opened in 1971.
Interim President Donald Christian will begin the ceremony with opening remarks, followed by comments from some people who are up for re-election in the state and Student Association President Jennifer Sanchez.

The building features new dining venues, an enhanced bookstore, student lounge areas and an
elevated seating area designed for student collaboration.

I features more than 300 glass panels and WiFi.

"We also now have an entertainment commons and game area with billiards and flat-screen televisions," said Mike Patterson, director of Student Activities and Union Services, said in a prepared statement.

Or, in other words, everything you need to study.

The addition was made possible through a special state appropriation secured by two state politicians who would like to be very much mentioned.

Sucks for them.
