We believe this system dramatically improves the way conversations take place, because it gives you the power to choose how you read the comments, it integrates whatever account you want to use and keeps the conversations in one thread.

But the best way to showcase how the system works is to show you how it works, so I've put that very system on this blog.

The main difference between my blog's system and the Freeman's is that I don't moderate or require registration. The Freeman will maintain its current system. The sorting system and "Likes" are ways to give you the power to display the comments the way you want to see them.
In short, you are in control.
So how about using this system and this space to voice your concerns, ask questions and for clarification about.

UPDATE 2: The comment on this post also made me rethink the ranking criteria, which is the headline, and not the URL where the story resides, meaning that if a story changes through the day, as stories are wont to do, different headlines will change the rankings. The headline ranking reflects how many people saw a story as it was written. A URL ranking reflects a story re-written multiple times, where the last version ends up being dramatically different from the original. Both rankings have value.
So I did another ranking based on URLs. Here are the 10 based on that. Remember, there were different headlines on the same story, I'm displaying the last headline used.
I'm using my blog to test a new and faster way to publish election results. Here are some of the things we're planning to do at the Freeman:
We've created (still working on completion, so bear with us if there's stuff missing still) a spreadsheet that will constantly update election results as they come in. Here's a preview, with empty results, obviously.
All you have to do is hit refresh every now and then. But how do you know when results are in, right? For that, we'll have a CoverItLive container, with all the people at the Freeman who are working on Election Day stories, pretty much all of us. The best part is that CoverItLive allows YOU to chime in. I'll be moderating that as well, to include relevant comments and questions.
In addition, we're including a SeeClickFix Election Problems report widget on our site so that you can tell everyone if there is a problem at the polls. We'll be monitoring those as well.

I was on WKNY this morning, on "Speak Out!" with Jody McTague. She had mentioned that she doesn't read the Freeman online. So I brought some toys to make her a convert.
I livestreamed some of the show to showcase some of the capabilities of the devices.
I also forced her to use an iPad and told a caller that I would post a photo of her using technology.
We've got a pretty nice idea of what to do, and those at the CML meeting (physically and in the cloud) seem to be game for it.
The short term plan is this:
* Help with traffic.
When a featured blogger has a new post, we're notified. If it's worthy it ("I ate burritos today" doesn't warrant a highlight), we'll put if atop the site under "Featured" for a limited amount of time, say, two hours.
* Develop a network with them and better communication.
The partnership we've envisioned involves bloggers hooking up with one another, to add value to their own sites. Guest hosting, cross promotion, the works.
* Guidance.
Using a blog or lessons and livestreams from postings within our parent company, Journal Register, we want to help bloggers improve their skills through cloud training. We could theoretically host a meeting while the session is going on and brainstorm new ideas after that.
* Rewards. Print the best highlights in the newspaper.
That's pretty much it — for now. We'll grow as time and resources allow.
