Shadowland Theatre breaks records in 2010

The Shadowland Theatre (yes, theatRE) in Ellenville has announced that the actors’ equity theater filled 91 percent of its seats, sold out 47 percent of performances and grew single-ticket Box-Office sales in 2010.

Shadowland’s 2010 summer season was a success for the sixth year in a row, said Brendan Burke, producing artistic director and the board of directors of the venue.

In a press release, Burke said:

"For 2010, the 148-seat theater saw a 6% rise in total box-office sales over 2009’s record-breaking season; 47% of the June to early October season’s performances were sold out; and overall attendance for the season was at 91% of total seating capacity, a new high for Shadowland. Private and corporate donations also saw a dramatic rise, increasing 123%.

Rhinebeck native Joseph Mazzello will poke you in 'The Social Network'

Actor Joseph Mazzello (the III), who plays Dustin Moskovitz in "The Social Network," was born in Rhinebeck and raised in Hyde Park.

He is the son of Ginnie and Joseph Mazzello, Jr., who own JG Dance in Hyde Park.

Mazzello also played Tim Murphy in "Jurassic Park," and most recently played "Sledgehammer" Eugene Sledge in the HBO miniseries "The Pacific."

He made his directorial debut with "Matters of Life and Death," in which he also stars.

That film also includes David Strathairn, the Oscar-nominated Dutchess County resident who will be in Ellenville on Saturday.

Cooking on a bridge

"Brunch on the Bridge," a three-episode cooking show series by www.greenpeastv.com that takes place over the Mid-Hudson Bridge, taped its latest on July 26.

It features chef Marcus Guiliano of Aroma Thyme Bistro in Ellenville, who created a vegetarian brunch with a little help from New York State Bridge Authority’s Executive Director Joseph Ruggiero. Kingston's own Stockade Tavern owner Paul Maloney was on hand to demonstrate old-time pre-Prohibtion era cocktail recipes using spirits from Tuthilltown Spirits of Gardiner.

The “Brunch on the Bridge” episode is scheduled to "air" on www.greenpeastv.com later this month.

The Earth's got moves you've never seen

The U.S. Geological Survey agency has been compiling responses to the 1:41 p.m., 5.0 Richter-scale quake in some country to the north. It occurred 12 miles beneath the Earth's surface and lasted about 30 seconds, the USGS said.

Here are the responses, broken into towns, intensity, number of responses and distance from the episode, in kilometers, because you should've learned the metric system in the 1970s like Jimmy Carter wanted.

In Kingston, it felt like a 2, from 25 responses. In Catskill and Ellenville, the report says it felt like a 3. In my desk, it felt like a zero because I'm originally from Peru and anything below 6 there causes less panic than rain.

Also from the USGS, a winning lead sentence: "There's a 100 percent chance of an earthquake today."
